As part of its digital wellbeing efforts, Xiaomi is developing a new focus mode for its MIUI operating system. Revealed by MIUI Boss on Weibo, the new mode is now available as a part of MIUI Developer Edition and can be accessed by going to Settings> Screen Time Management. Focus mode feels similar to OnePlus’s Zen mode and users are made to move away from their smartphone for a set time period and enjoy life in the real world.
There’s no word on whether MIUI Focus Mode will roll out to the stable version users, though it shouldn’t take too long, as it won’t require a massive trial period and is already available for the developer version.
According to the Focus Mode screenshot shared on Weibo by MIUI chief, Focus Mode will allow users to choose from 20 minute, 30 minute, 45 minute, 60 minute and 90 minute options. Once focus mode is introduced, consumers will no longer be able to use their smartphone, except to make emergency calls and take photos only. Although it is not mentioned in the screenshot, customers will likely also be able to receive calls.
It is good to see smartphone manufacturers focusing on the digital wellbeing of their customers, seeing that smartphones have become an integral part of our lives.
