WhatsApp has started the rollout of audio playback in notifications for iOS users. The feature is being made available to some users as part of the WhatsApp Messenger 188.8.131.52 beta update. The Facebook-owned messaging service was spotted testing the feature a few weeks ago. It has now started rolling out the feature as a beta update to iOS users. If you have an iPhone then you should download the WhatsApp version of 2.19,91.1 beta from TestFlight for instant experience.
WhatsApp for iOS gets audio playback in notifications
According to WABetaInfo, the update is also available for WhatsApp Business Beta version 184.108.40.206 users. There is a possibility that this feature will be available on the App Store on WhatsApp and Business version 2.19.90. However, if you are impatient, TestFlight is the best way to get audio playback in notifications. If you have updated to the latest version and cannot see this feature then there is a workaround. You should backup your chat history and install WhatsApp again.
Every time you reinstall WhatsApp, the most updated configuration is downloaded from the server and thus enables the latest features. As part of the beta update, the messaging service has enabled two features based on your number. If the last digit of your number is odd then you get voice message playback facility. If the last digit is even, you get audio file playback. The opposite is also true based on WhatsApp server configuration.
If the feature is enabled and a contact sends you a voice message, when you expand it, you will see the audio playback UI. This feature also works with a normal audio file. However, you will not be able to reply with the audio file. Due to iOS limitations, you can reply with only one text message. When you play a voice message from notifications, the service does not immediately send a play receipt. It will be sent only when the user opens WhatsApp.
