Uber’s top executives met Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Uber has shortlisted five countries – India, Japan, Australia, Brazil and France – and one of them will become the first Uber Air City outside the US.
The drone policy unveiled last month will make air taxi operation in India a reality soon, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said on Thursday.

“Met with @Uber Elevate team. India offers an encouraging and responsive regulatory framework to solve the challenge of urban transportation. With our progressive drone policies, we want to see air taxis becoming a reality soon!,” the Minister tweeted and tagged a photo with the Uber team.
Ride hailing app Uber on Saturday said its top executives met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and showcased its futuristic aerial taxi service under Uber Elevate. During the meeting, Allison apprised the PM “of the potential of Uber Elevate, showcasing the exciting future Uber Air can bring to the region and to the world,” it said.

Uber said it hopes to start operating demonstrator flights in 2020 and begin commercial operations in 2023 in the three cities, depending on the regulatory clearances.
