OnePlus Concept One prototype device showcased in all-black finish

OnePlus Concept One, OnePlus’ concept smartphone, was showcased at CES 2020 this month. The smartphone, designed in collaboration with the British motor racing team McLaren, came in signature colors. It has a papaya orange finish that is synonymous with McLaren’s F1 car. But the company may have tried another color option as well. The all-black prototype of the OnePlus Concept One has surfaced, although you cannot buy it.

OnePlus Concept One is the world’s first device to introduce electrochromic glass technology. This is the same technology that is also used to design the roof of McLaren’s sports cars. With electrochromic glass technology, OnePlus is able to achieve color-shift on the back glass panel. The device is ideally OnePlus 7T Pro with a back panel made of electrochromic glass technology. The use of this technology allows OnePlus to create an invisible camera effect. The material may be commonly used on smartphones in the future.

At the time of its unveiling, OnePlus reported that the glass of the OnePlus Concept One uses organic particles to change transparency. This means that the glass covering the camera lens can become completely clear in an instant from opaque black. The company calls in electronic CMFs and it doubles as a built-in polarization filter for the camera. It draws inspiration from the technology used in McLaren’s 720S sports car.
