NASA’S  FOLDING CARBON FABRIC HEAT SHIELD


Nasa launched the umbrella like carbon fabric heat shield on Wednesday, traditional aeroshells gradually degrade in layers to protect vehicles from temperatures of around 3,000°C, ADEPT uses a flexible carbon fabric skin to deflect heat.

This fabric can be folded just like an umbrella, according to NASA this technology open the doors for larger missions like Venus, Mars or Titan.
