Xiaomi’s Mi Band series has been a runaway success for the company due to its combination of competitive features at ultra-low prices. Now, Xiaomi is reportedly trying to move up a notch with its next fitness band, temporarily called Mi Band 5. As the name suggests, the Mi Band 5 will succeed the Mi Band 4, and reportedly will pack a larger 1.2-inch. AMOLED display. Additionally, Xiaomi will reportedly equip its upcoming fitness band with NFC support which will not be discontinued in any particular area.
A new report from TizenHelp mentions that the Mi Band 5 will be equipped with a 1.2-inch color AMOLED display, however, resolution and other features such as brightness output are not known. In comparison, the Mi Band 4 has a 0.95-inch color AMOLED display with 120×240 pixels resolution. The report states that the Mi Band 5 display will provide a higher brightness output, better contrast and better readability under natural light.
Another notable feature that Mi Band 5 will bring is support for NFC outside of China as well. Xiaomi already offers the NFC variant of Mi Band 4 in China, but the stock sold in other markets like India lacks NFC support. With Mi Band 5, Xiaomi can change this, and offer NFC support in all markets. This means that the NFC support of the Mi Band 5 will pay users for travel and other supported forms, regardless of geography.
The Mi Band 5 is priced at CNY 179 (approx. Rs. 1,800) at the time of its launch, which will be an increase in the price of CNY 10 (approx. Rs. 100) over the asking price of Mi 10. Mi Band 5 for Xiaomi, but as of now, nothing has been revealed about the launch date of the upcoming fitness band.
