Google unveiled their new BOLO Android app, it is a speech based reading tutor app, which is aimed for rural areas kids, those who doesn’t have access to good education system. It is first released in India and is now available for download free in Google Play store.
“We believe technology has the power to help transform teaching and learning, and have been actively directing our products, programs and philanthropy to ensure that all students are able to benefit from it,” Google said in a statement.
Bolo app help children’s to improve their Hindi and English reading skills by encouraging them to read aloud. App includes a large number of stories, that will help children’s comprehension skills. Reading materials in the app is free to use. According to the company the Bolo app is currently in beta and company is continuously working with their partners like kalvalya, Room to Read to further refine it and take the app to more numbers of children.
“With the help of ASER Centre, we have been piloting Bolo across 200 villages in UttarPradesh, India, over the past few months,” Google wrote in a blog post. “Early results are very encouraging, and we found that 64 percent of children showed an improvement in reading proficiency in just 3 months.”
