Facebook last year introduced its short-form video app Lasso to take on TikTok. The app was launched in the US only then, but Facebook reportedly plans to launch it in India this year. It is most likely to start in the first financial quarter of next year or by May 2020. In addition, WhatsApp was seen working on LASCO integration, hinting at big plans from Facebook’s end to the short-form video app. Facebook will face stiff competition from Tikkok whenever it decides to launch in India, as it is extremely popular among users in the country.
A new report from Entrack states that the Lasso will be introduced in the Indian market this year, and Facebook leaves no stone unturned to give TicTok a tough fight. The social media giant is reportedly set to launch the Lasso app by May this year. “Facebook Singapore is working with a team of a dozen people, who have been preparing for a launch since October,” said one of the two people above, on condition of anonymity. A source familiar with Facebook’s plans told the publication, “They are mapping a number of aspects that begin Tiktok’s development in India through third parties.”
Apart from this, another source says that Facebook knows that it will have to fight Tiktok fiercely in the Indian market, and will leave no stone unturned in its game. TikTok is eating up a decent market share of Facebook in India, and the social media giant is gearing up for the fight. The company is working on an aggressive strategy to get creators on board and influence in order to switch from Tickcock to Lasso. The source said, “Lasso is looking at influencers and celebrities by promising a minimum guarantee, which they get more in quantity than Tiktok.”
To reiterate, the Lasso app was launched in the US last year, and since its inception, it has been downloaded over a million times on the Google Play Store. Apart from India, Facebook reportedly also launches Lasso in other emerging markets like Indonesia.
