BOEING’S SOLAR POWERED CLIMATE RESEARCH DRONE
Aurora Flight Science, a subsidiary of Boeing, specializes in unmanned Arial vehicles, is going to launch a solar powered autonomous aircraft, named Odysseus. The aircraft is designed to persistent flight at height-altitudes and will be used to perform climate and atmospheric research. it’s first takeoff is scheduled in spring 2019.
According to Aurora, This aircraft operates like a cross between a drone and a satellite. It’s intended to fly above weather and other aircraft and can cover a massive geographic area. It can fly continuously for months, because it’s a solar powered aircraft.
It can gather data and can quickly communicate the information, It’ll used to gather information related to environment, weather and storm monitoring. Aurora says it can be used for communication, connectivity and intelligence missions as well. It can also be reprogrammed mid-flight as tasks evolve.
