Apple on Thursday rolled out the watchOS 6 update to choose the Apple Watch model. In addition to new apps like Noise and Voice Memo, as well as features such as the ability to monitor menstruation and install the app directly from Watch, the update introduces new health features in India.
Atrial fibrillation, or A-fib, is an abnormal heart rhythm, indicating rapid and irregular heartbeat. Sometimes, it is accompanied by other symptoms such as chest pain, but often, there is no external sign. If left untreated, A-FIB can result in stroke, which makes timely detection of A-FAM extremely important.
The irregular rhythm notification feature can sometimes check the heart rhythm in the background and send a notification if an irregular heart rhythm is identified by atrial fibrillation (A-fib). Apple noted that the Apple Watch is not constantly looking for A-Fib, so not all instances of A-Fib can be detected.
Available only to Apple Watch Series 4 (and newer) users, the ECG app requires a more proactive approach from users. The clock’s rear crystals as well as the electrodes built into the digital crown work together to enable users to take an electrocardiogram from their home or office facility. Just fire the ECG app on the Apple Watch, touch the crown, and count the app for 30 seconds.
Each heart rhythm is then classified as an A-fib, sinus rhythm, or non-determinant. Apple states that all recordings and their associated classification, as well as any notable features, have been stored in the Health app on the iPhone. If necessary, users can share a PDF of the results with physicians.
