Apple has announced an extended replacement program for the Apple Watch Series 2 & Series 3 models with an aluminum casing.
According to Apple’s support page on this issue, “in very rare instances”, aluminum models of the above watches can develop cracks on the curved edges of the glass, which can extend around the screen.

The program spans three years from the date of purchase or one year from the start of the program.
Affected devices can be brought to an Apple Store for a certified professional, or you can contact Apple Support online.
If the device is eligible, Apple will replace the screen or watch for free, as needed.
This program is valid for three years as the first retail purchase date or one year from the start of the replacement program, whichever is longer.
Apple has also given guidelines on how to prepare the Watch before sending it for repair or replacement.
It is not an extension of the warranty and only covers the screen when damaged in the manner described by Apple.
